      In this panel we present you speakers who are experts in Big Data, who are also practitioners in cutting edge industries today. They will cover a wide range of topics ranging from infrastructure to practical application to promising business models in Big Data. Speaker Biography

      David Chen, VC, Lightspeed Ventures

      David focuses primarily on investments in the mobile, Internet, and software sectors.

      Before joining Lightspeed, David was a product manager on the Facebook growth team.  Previously, he was co-founder and VP Product of Triangulate, a venture-backed startup using social media behaviors to drive algorithmic matching.  Prior to Triangulate, David served in product management and engineering roles for Admob and Digital Chocolate. In addition, he worked at McKinsey on strategic engagements with technology companies.

      David received his Ph.D. in Science, Technology, and Management from Harvard Business School and Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and his M.S. and B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard.


      Steve Baunach, CTO, Starview

      Steve is responsible for the design and delivery of high-value, domain-specific solutions to customers, working to translate challenges into product requirements for future productization of the Starview Enterprise Platform and customer project implementations. Prior to founding Starview Inc.’s predecessor Starview Technology in 2001, Steve served as VP of Engineering and CTO of BlackHog, a cloud-based inter-enterprise direct material procurement management system. Before that, he was VP of Product Development and CTO of Sherpa Corporation, seeing it through its acquisition by Inso Corporation and subsequent sale to SDRC. Steve has a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from Oregon State University, and has been Issued three US patents.

       

      Xuhui Shao, VP Engineering, Yahoo Advertising & Data Platform

      As the VP Engineering in Yahoo’s Advertising and Data Platform group, Dr. Xuhui Shao leads an experienced engineering team on the production, processing, analysis and modeling of big data that powers the vast Yahoo web properties, digital apps and the world largest online advertising ecosystem.

      Xuhui has spent 10+ years leading research and development in computational intelligence, big data systems and software engineering in various industries from banking, finance, online retailing, healthcare, insurance, marketing, and online advertising. Before joining Yahoo, he was the CTO of Turn, an online advertising technology company.

      As the lead inventor and co-inventor of three awarded patents in the areas of advanced analytics and optimization, Xuhui is a recognized expert in harnessing data and transforming analytics into actionable insights and optimization strategies. He earned his bachelor's and master's of science degrees from Tsinghua University, Beijing, and his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Minnesota.


      Simon Zhang, Director of Business Analytics, LinkedIn

      Mr. Zhang currently works at LinkedIn and leads the Business Analytics team supporting LinkedIn monetization efforts across all of the business lines including Talent Solutions, Marketing Solutions and Premium Subscriptions. In his team, he manages, analytics infrastructure, BI, analytics, and data mining functions. His team delivers innovative analytics solutions via big analytics to help Product, Marketing, Global Sales, Engineer and Operations teams operate more effectively by leveraging unique LinkedIn data and insights. These insights also allow their leadership team to make better decisions and enable product, marketing and sales orgs to better understand and assist customers and specific prospects. Mr. Zhang used to work in the hospital as a neurosurgeon 10 years ago. And he also served for several companies in their analytics teams including eBay, Petco and Epson in the past.       Min Shao, VP of Decision Management, Paypal

      Dr. Min Shao has over 20 years of executive leadership and hands-on experience in applying advanced data mining algorithms and sound software engineering practices to create innovative data-driven products and solutions in a variety of industries, including consumer finance, telecommunication, healthcare and insurance, e-commerce, and etc.  He is currently the Vice President of Decision Management at PayPal, leading a team of data scientists and engineers to develop world-class big data technologies and solutions for risk detection and prevention. Prior to PayPal, he was Vice President of Analytic Science at FICO, responsible for designing, developing, and supporting analytic products for fraud detection, credit risk management, and collections and recoveries world-wide.
