      Program Description

      Digital Divide Data (DDD) is a social enterprise that delivers data solutions to clients worldwide.  DDD creates better future for disadvantaged youth in emerging economies through employment in a financially sustainable business.  DDD launched in Kenya in 2011; the business has grown rapidly to employ 250 staff.  The company uses a model called "Impact Sourcing" to employ and support the higher education of young women and men from slum areas in Nairobi.

      • Amolo Ng'weno's Bio:  Ms. Amolo Ng'weno is Managing Director of Digital Divide Data Kenya.  Amolo came to DDD from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where she served as Deputy Director in the Financial Services for the Poor team in the Global Development Program. As Deputy Director she worked to improve scale, range and impact of financial services available to the poor in developing countries. Prior to her work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Amolo worked in Kenya, her native country, where she was the COO of the Trust for African Rock Art. She also was a co-founder of Africa Online, East Africa's first internet provider, still operating in eight countries. Amolo holds a B.A. in Psychology and Social Relations from Harvard University and a Master's in Public Affairs from Princeton University.
