Both State and Federal law make it unlawful for certain persons to own and/or possess (including handle) any firearm. These restrictions are many and constantly changing. BayProfs, Inc. is not a law firm. We cannot advise you as to your specific eligibility to handle the firearms in our classes. In addition, the law frequently changes and we don't have a legal staff to follow those changes in a timely manner. Therefore, we direct you to for a list of prohibiting circumstances. In addition, aliens admitted to the US under a non- immigrant visa are generally prohibited from possessing or purchasing a firearm. However, there are exceptions. The exceptions are found in 18 USC Section 922(y)(2). Go to %20Section%20922%28y%29%282%29%29 Provisions Relating to Aliens Admitted Under Nonimmigrant Visas about halfway down the page. If you have any doubt about your eligibility to handle firearms after reading the materials above, you may want to download and submit the Personal Firearms Eligibility Check Application to the Cal DOJ to determine your eligibility. The form is found here: This is a request to conduct the same background check you would undergo if you attempt to buy a gun. The Ca DOJ will return the form to you with a nay or yea. Please contact us via email to bayprofs -at- bayprofs -dot- org before buying your tickets if you have questions about this section.   CLASS INFORMATION: During the class you will be exposed to the safe and fun operation of firearms in general and handguns specifically. You will be taught, and we will demonstrate, the safety rules in handling firearms. You will have many opportunities throughout the day to show your grasp of these rules. We will teach you using video, lecture, demonstrations and student-involved hands-on techniques. During the class you will be encouraged to handle a variety of handguns. We will have a number of class sections that will encompass handgun handling techniques. Your class will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until about 8:00 PM. The facility does not open until 10 AM, so arriving appreciably earlier will unfortunately leave you waiting in the parking lot. Since Target Masters makes it's income with shooters, and you will be here all day, please park as far from the front door as possible to allow the "paying" customers the opportunity to park close to the doors. Best place to park is at the end of the parking lot by the Milpitas PD or on the street in front of the facility. At 10 AM we will open the classroom doors, check you in, and issue your name badge. A class packet will be waiting for you at your seat. We will take short breaks, of approximately 10 minutes, throughout the day, for you to relax, give you additional time handle the firearms you are learning about, and ask additional questions, whether or not related to the subjects under instruction. We will take a one-hour break for lunch at about 1:00 PM. You may bring your own lunch or go to any of the eateries located within the general area. We will not take a specific dinner break so bring some snacks to keep your energy up, or alternatively, save some of your lunch. There are soda and snack machines in the retail area and sometimes coffee is available. Later in the day there will be a range session for you to use all the skills and knowledge you will have learned in the class, while shooting at paper targets. We will have a shooting bay with five or six shooting lanes dedicated to your class for this instructional period. We will provide the firearms, ammunition, targets, and safety equipment you will need. We recommend that you bring a jacket for the range session as the range air cleaning process can make it a little cold during our live fire exercises. Some of the firearms you will shoot will eject the cartridge that was just fired, during the reloading cycle. We recommend that you bring a brimmed hat (baseball style will work, brim all the way around is excellent), a shirt or jacket that buttons or zips to the neck, and closed toed shoes (sneakers are OK). The ejected case will be tossed up and away from some firearms and can startle you if it hits a bare toe or bare head. We try to reduce surprises while shooting. You may bring your own gun to the class. However, if you do so please let the instructor at the check-in and registration table know that you have a firearm. We would like the opportunity to examine the firearm, and we will store it at the front of the classroom during the lecture portion of the class. We provide all the firearms necessary for the class and range session so for insurance, reliability, and liability issues you will not shoot your gun during the class. However, if you have specific questions or issues regarding your individual firearm we will be happy to help you with those during the breaks or at lunch. Our day continues for another hour or so after all the students have left so it is unlikely we can go shooting with you after class. But it doesn't hurt to ask. Please do not bring ammunition to the class. We provide all the ammunition required for the class. In addition, for safety reasons, we do not allow live ammunition in the classroom. We use dummy cartridges in the classroom to demonstrate those skills requiring ammunition. IMPORTANT! Your gun must be transported unloaded and empty, in a locked case, not accessible to the driver or passengers while driving, to comply with the California State Penal Code. Do not transport loaded magazines or ammunition in the same case with the handgun. Put the ammunition in a separate container. Go to for detailed information on this subject. At the completion of the Basic Pistol class we will conduct a California Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) class for those persons desiring to own a firearm. In California you must have an FSC (purchase permit) before you will be allowed to purchase a firearm. The FSC requires an additional State fee of $25. If you are interested in taking the FSC, you can purchase a Student + FSC ticket in order to include the costs of the FSC exam in your order. You can also pay for this test in cash during the day of class. You are not required to take the FSC with us. You may take the test from any facility that offers it, at any time. However, our students generally pass the FSC with a score of 100%, due to the information they learned in our Basic Pistol class. Bayprofs also provides Chuck Michel's book, California Gun Laws, included in the price of the course ($24.95 on This book is an excellent reference on the confusing CA gun laws. We offer a quantity discount for groups of 3 or more! If all 3 students in the group are interested in the FSC, we have a Student + FSC group ticket available. If your group has a mix of FSC and non FSC students, please contact us and we can set something up.
