Recycled Water Strategic Plan, City of Palo Alto

The City of Palo Alto and Valley Water are hosting a public meeting to review draft expansion opportunities identified for increased recycled water use in the City of Palo Alto's Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP) service area (i.e., Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Stanford University, and portions of East Palo Alto and Menlo Park). The RWQCP is a local source of drought-proof, sustainable water, only a small fraction of which is currently being used for irrigation and toilet flushing. Investments in pipeline expansions and additional treatment facilities would increase the RWQCP’s ability to be a local water source to meet future non-potable and potable demands and decrease dependence on imported water. The City of Palo Alto in collaboration with Valley Water, has evaluated numerous concept options under the Northwest County Recycled Water Strategic Plan that would expand the current amount of recycled water used in the RWQCP's service area. This meeting will feature presentations on current recycled water production and use, draft future expansion opportunities, and provide an opportunity for public comment.
